Marco Dapkey
Waiting for Marco Dapkey was a promise-filled senior football season. His Neshaminy High coaches had selected him to be one of the squad’s captains, he was expected to be a two-way contributor for the Redskins, and recruiting interest was growing.
All that changed on June 13. Struggling with his breathing the night before and into the morning, a panicked Dapkey woke his mother, Rita.
That prompted a short trip to Aria Health Bucks County, where physicians, Rita Dapkey said, thought at first that Marco might have a serious sinus infection or, maybe, pneumonia. An X-ray and CT scan revealed much more.
A huge mass was spotted in Dapkey’s upper chest, severely compressing his larynx. The 17-year-old was immediately transported by ambulance to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. “I knew something was terribly wrong,” Rita Dapkey said.
The following afternoon, with Dapkey’s family by his side in the intensive care unit, Dr. Spencer Sullivan, an oncology fellow at CHOP, revealed the diagnosis to him: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

This week, Neshaminy Senior Corey Majors selected Villanova over several other local area schools, where he will continue playing football next year. Villanova graduated 4 linebackers last season creating an opening that will give Majors (6′1″ 225 RB/LB) plenty of playing opportunity next year as a Freshman.

The new scoreboard is up. It was installed on Saturday August 28th. The new wireless board will able to display ‘official’ times and results in real time for events such as track meets. The scoreboard is designed to accept additional add-on modules in the future. These modules would mount on the bottom, giving the board additional capabilities. One such use would be a scrolling message bar that could display ads and important information during events.

Neshaminy Redskins head coach, Mark Schmidt will be handling the reigns of the Northeast’s team in the upcoming New Jersey-Northeast All-Star Classic set for Sunday, June 6th. Having served as the head coach of Pennsylvania’s Big 33 team, as well as the Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association’s East-West All-Star Eastern team and the Southern team in the Bucks County Lion’s Club All-Star game too, this selection completes the picture for Coach Schmidt and mid-summer high school grid games. Now in its 13th year, the NJ-NE game pits 42 of the top players from New Jersey versus a like number of all-star players selected from the Mid-Atlantic region of the Eastern U.S. Being played at Rutgers Stadium, there isn’t a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. And with kickoff at 3:00 PM (while Rutgers is just a one-hour drive away), don’t miss the opportunity to see this kind of talent on display! For more information on the game just CLICK HERE .
This video interview with Coach Schmidt was conducted on April 25, 2010 at the All Star Classic press conference in Piscataway New Jersey.
