Horsham: Week 2 of the 'Skins 2008 campaign saw them take to the road again as they traveled to Horsham to take on the Hatters of the SOL Continental Conference. And with both clubs coming off tough losses in their openers last week, neither squad was looking to drop to 0-2. So with the stage thus set, it was sure to be a scrappy and closely contested game.

Starting it off right, the Blue and Red received the opening kickoff. Taking over on their end of the field after the kick, a Redskin runner put the ball on the ground almost immediately. Unfortunately, the home team recovered and punched it in the promised-land in short order. With the PAT on the money, it was 7-0 for the Hatters before some of the fans had found their seats. But shaking that squib off, and looking like a well oiled machine, the Indians stitched together an impressive 7-minute long, 77-yard drive that ended when Brian Titus pegged a missile to his favorite receiver, Rick Brebner. As the point after was good, the scoreboard spun to 7-7. What followed next was another quick score for the Redskins as with 1:18 left on the 1st quarter clock, Bryan Dean ran back a punt to the one yard line. Then two plays later, it was Dean finding the end zone for a touchdown. With the kick good, the Redskins went up 14-7.

The second quarter featured a 60-yard touchdown pass by the Hatters to knot it at 14 each. With the 'Skins then getting back in control, it was Dean capping off another Blue and Red drive with his 2nd touchdown of the night on a 14-yard run. With the PAT good, the visitors were up 21-14 at the break. So despite a somewhat ugly first half, the 'Skins were not only in front, but a new name emerged for Neshaminy in the form of Dean (who not only punched two in but had some very pretty runs as he showed his stuff from the up back slot).

Coming out for the second half of play, the two teams settled into a game of moving the ball around without much luck at denting the end zone. In fact, although the Redskins looked in control, the game really wasn't put away until Keelan Adams popped a short field goal through the uprights to put our boys up 24-14 in the fourth quarter. And that's the way it ended with the Langhorne crew going to 1-1 with the win.

At the end of the day, although it was not one of the smoother efforts by a Redskin crew, it still went into the W column on the final gun. Plus, and as mentioned earlier, with Dean gaining over 130 yards on the ground, and almost a like amount in receiving or return yards, fans may have seen a coming out party of sorts. Plus the defense did what it needed, especially Justin Donnarumma and Jay Colbert who were all over the field letting the Hatters' offense know they meant business. So our view is that with a couple of games now under their belt, the season should be starting to sort itself out for our 2008 Redskins.

Next week sees the Germantown Bears visiting Langhorne for the home opener.

Tonight's game captains were Paul Carrezola, Jay Colbert, Dan Shirey & Mike Wynne.

See you at the game.
