Newtown: Starting to become as dependable as the sun rising in the East, Neshaminy and North Penn meeting in the playoffs almost makes it seem as if it's part of the regular season. And with two of those contests for the D1 crown - including this one - while the history of these two programs is well known to fans across the state, scholastic football in southeastern PA doesn't get much better. Plus tossing in the fact that the 'Skins and the Knights own identical 12-1 records (and their own personal reasons for making a win in this one a must have), it's hard to find enough superlatives to throw at this one. So rather than ramble on with what's been said and written about these squads and this game all week long, how about we just get down to the field here at the championship venue that Walt Synder Stadium is providing and let the players tell the story.

Taking the toss, the 'Skins elected to receive as they then lined up in their all-white road uniforms. And following the kick, it was Sean Ulmer taking it out to the 28 where Neshaminy set itself up. Taking the first handoff was Anthony Woodroffe who took it out to the 44 for a quick first down. From there a short run, dropped pass and penalty left it up to Justin Andrews to grab 14 yards to make it fourth and one. Going for it the 'Skins came up short by an inch and it went over to North Penn. And from there it was a quick, one-play 54-yard burst by a Knight running back to make it 7-0 for North Penn after the PAT was good.

Following the Knights kickoff, it was Neshaminy starting at their own 32. Two running plays went nowhere and a third-down pass play was then picked off at midfield. With the Knights back on offense, they picked up a fast 13 for a first. But stiffening the 'Skins pushed North Penn to a fourth before a back slipped free to the 13. The next play went for a score on a pass and with the extra point good the clock spun to 14-0 late in the first-quarter.

After the kick it was the Blue & Red at their 30 yard line. Moving it out from there they moved it to the North Penn 40 where it went to a third and 10 before Charlie Marterella found Woodroffe for a first at the 29. Then going to a fourth and seven at the 26, the Marterella pass fell flat as the ball went back to the Knights.

Still in the first-quarter, North Penn started it up at that spot but not for long as the first carry had it out to their 47. But stalling out, North Penn punted from that spot, and after Cole Creighton's return, it was first and ten at their 32. Pushing it to a third and eight it was Marterella finding Ulmer for a first at the 44. From there it was Ulmer doing the work to get it down to the Knights' 45 for another first. But after a sack it went to a third and long with the 'Skins pass being picked off. Following the return and a face mask call the Knights set up at the Neshaminy 30. The first play - a pass - had it at the five. Three plays later saw another Blue Knight score and after the PAT it was 21-0.

Back to receive again, it was Neshaminy still looking to get a consistent drive together. And then mixing it up in the air and on the ground they had the ball at the North Penn 39 for a first and ten. Following another first and series, it once again went to a fourth and short at the 19 with Majors taking it to the 15 for a fresh set of downs. Four straight shots then missed the mark as the ball went back to the Knights with just a few seconds on the first-half clock. And as North Penn then took a knee, the two clubs broke for the half.

Back on field for the final two-quarters, it was the Knights receiving the kick. After setting up in their of the field it seemed as if just a moment or two had passed before the Knights had moved it all the way down the field for a score and a PAT. And just like that it was 28-0 with the Knights kicking it back to the 'Skins. A nice return by Ulmer had it out to the 35 for a first and ten. Three plays later then saw the third North Penn interception of a Neshaminy pass. The return to the 35 gave North Penn another good spot to start another offensive effort. Taking their time on this drive, the Knights finally pushed it across to make it 35-0 after the extra point was good.

Once again it was Ulmer taking the North Penn kick out to the 35. Starting off this Tribe offensive effort was Dwight Williams grabbing his first pass of the night and taking it to mid-field. A few efforts later saw the ball down to the North Penn 40 before that drive stalled on downs. And as North Penn took over, the clock rolled over to the fourth-quarter with the teams changing directions for the last time.

With the second teams beginning to get some action, the running clock kept things moving along. And moving it along too was the North Penn backup offense which took another one across with about five minutes remaining. Then after the kickoff and return it seemed like nothing but shiny new faces on the field on both sides of the ball. Featuring Joe Bianchino under center, and Cole Creighton and Ron Smith lugging the ball, the 'Skins finally found the end zone as Creighton took one in at the one-minute mark. With the two-point attempt short, the score then stood at 42-6. Following the kick by Neshaminy, and a few more plays, the gun sounded the end of the game.

In closing out the year, we start with congratulations to North Penn for winning the D1 title. We wish the Knights good luck the rest of the way through the playoffs and know they'll represent D1 well. A thank you is also extended to the Council Rock crew that hosted the game. Finally, to the players and coaching staff -- we can't thank you guys enough for posting a terrific 12-2 season and engineering a return to the D1 championship. It was a great 2010 campaign and we enjoyed many, many terrific moments along the way. And while this last game didn't turn out exactly as we had planned or would have liked, we love you guys just the same. Knowing that you can rest assured that come 2011 we'll all be back out at the Ridge, or wherever you're playing, screaming and cheering our hearts out. So see you next year and until then: Go 'Skins!
