Game 06

Langhorne: On a crisp, cool football night, Neshaminy entertains Central Bucks South as the second-half of the regular season gets underway. And with the Titans showing their muscle so far at 4-1 there's no doubt about their abilities. Meanwhile, the Red & Blue come in at 2-3 following their tough loss to Pennridge last week, 21-14. Still, whether you’re the 'Skins or the Titans, the realigned SOL National Conference leaves little room for anything but wins. So with that thought in mind it can be sure that both these clubs will be bringing their all tonight as they renew their relationship for the first time since 2007. So with no need to set the table any further, it's time we headed down to the turf and the action.

With the Titans winning the toss and the ball the Dylan McDonald kickoff was brought out nicely by the return man. And a 'Skins penalty and some tough running by the Titans saw them quickly find the endzone on a pass play from in close. With the PAT down the pike it was CB South quickly in front, 7-0. It was Will Dogba then grabbing the Titans' boot with a nice return setting up Mason Jones and his boys at their own 45. A quick aerial hit from Jones to Denzel Hughes immediately earned 40 yards down to the 15. Getting boxed in, though, Neshaminy went to a third-and-long before Jones hit JR Stevens at the six. A penalty then lost five and the McDonald's field goal just missed.

South's offense then came back with six-minutes on the first-quarter clock and following the 'Skins miscue. Looking like they were going nowhere a long run by a Titan back looked like they had another score but a penalty brought it back. Then starting it back up they began to slog their way down the field before it went to 4th and 12 at the Neshaminy 32. Throwing a screen the Titan back made the catch and bobbed his way to the endzone. The point after was true and South had a 14-0 lead with 1:36 left in the quarter.

South's kickoff was a touchback and Neshaminy started the series at their 20. A nice pass to Hughes was close to the first before D'Andre Pollard busted one across mid-field to the 45 of South as the second-quarter rolled around. Then following the team flip, Jones went up top as Zach Tredway made a super catch for just enough to earn the first down. Going to a third-and-four after that it was Pollard popping it to the 20 for a fresh set of downs. The first pass missed and Pollard then ran for six to make it third-and-four. Jones then pinned Tredway in the endzone corner for the score with McDonald nailing the extra point as the game tightened to 14-7.

Neshaminy's kick was a squibbler and after the short return it was South at their 20. Then mixing up some nice runs and passes it wasn't long before the Titans had put another one in the back ten for six more points. The kick then turned the scoreboard to 21-7 for the visitors.

After a nice return following a slip, Will Dogba returned SB's kickoff to the 20. From there a combination of runs by Pollard and a great catch by Hughes had the ball across midfield. Pollard then ripped one for a big gain to the four and he then followed that with another burst for the last yards and the score. McDonald was on the money and the score tightened to 21-14 as four minutes still showed in the second-session.

McDonald's kick was short and South had a terrific spot at their 44. Once again working their offense South pushed their way down in close before it went to a fourth-and-two. On a terrific play South's big back made it to the two for a first and the following QB keeper took them in. The kick didn't miss and CB's lead jumped to 28-14 with a minute to play before the break.

South's kick was returned by Will Dogba all the way to the 32. Pollard quickly had six and then it was Jones to Hughes who made a big grab at the mid-field point. The 'Skins then quickly called a timeout at the 38 second mark to talk it over. And deciding airing it out was good Jones then hit Tredway at the 30 with 30 seconds remaining. Spiking one and then getting two and going out-of-bounds to set up third-and-long Jones found Stevens at the ten as he also went out for a first-and-goal. One play was short to set up another try with 10 ticks on the clock. Going to Pollard, he made a big grab for the score. South jumped and after the penalty it was at the one. Going for it, the handoff to Pollard was good and the scoreboard showed 28-22 with just a couple of seconds remaining.

McDonald's kick was picked up at the 25 and after the short run the clock hit zero to send the teams to the locker rooms for a well-deserved break.

Neshaminy took the South kick to start the second-half as the return man put it to the 25. Unable to earn the first, Kevin Goetz came in and made a nice hit to put the ball across mid-field. In no time it was the Titan's main back breaking it free and going the distance. As the kick was good, the score went to 35-22.

The South kick was picked up by Will Dogba at the 10 and brought back to the 25 for start off another offensive series for Neshaminy. A couple of Pollard and Dan Dogba runs plus Jones passes gave the 'Skins a first down at the 50 yard line. But the drive stalled at that spot and the Blue & Red punted it away as South then took over at their 25 after the exchange.

From there South looked good as they quickly moved it across mid-field. From there they continued to press as they reached the red zone. Starting to stiffen Hollywood Magdelinskas tracked down a South runner to push a fourth-and-long and a 33-yard field goal try. As the kick was on the money it went to 38-22 for the visitors.

Back to receive the kick, this time it was Pollard taking the grab and getting to the 18 before he was stopped. Giving him the ball twice from there the ball was quickly at the 30 for a first. Still, the offense hit a wall quickly and after the Goetz punt it was South with the ball on their side of the fifty as the fourth-quarter got underway.

With South's big man looking unstoppable it was just a few plays before he found the route to the back ten for another score. The PAT was just as good too as the Titans took a 45-22 lead with ten minutes on the clock. And quickly teeing it up, the kick was caught by Will Dogba and brought back to the 21 for a first down. Pollard earned a first in a hurry and a Jones pass soon had the 'Skins at the Titan 49. It was from there that he then busted it loose for another beautiful run and score. The McDonald kick didn't miss at with 8:25 on the clock it went to 45-28 in favor of South.

Neshaminy followed the score with an onsides kick but South recovered at their 45. Getting bunched up they went for a 33-yard field goal which missed but Neshaminy was called for 12 men on the field and then offsides to give South a first at the ten. Three plays later they were in and with the kick good, the scoreboard rolled to 52-29 as the clock showed 4:30 to go.

Neshaminy took over at their 20 after the short return. And looking like world beaters two runs by Pollard earned the yards and the score. Then going for the onsides once again it turned out as before with South falling on the ball at their 48. Staying on the ground it was South still punching away with their big man as the clock continued to burn. And soon enough it hit zero as the gun sent the crowd home for the night.

You have to say that it was a great game by CB South tonight as they showed why they're in the hunt this year. Good luck to them the rest of the season. Looking to Neshaminy, once again there were moments when they showed great promise and skill and others when they seemed out-of-sorts. So with four games remaining in the regular season the goal should be continued improvement and a more even performance on game nights. We're sure the coaches will stress that this coming week. And don’t forget that next Friday sees our boys on the road as they travel to play the always tough Souderton Indians.

See you at the Game!
