Langhorne: With the weather putting a steady, misty rain down on the field at Heartbreak Ridge, and with the boys perhaps still thinking about last week's contest while looking forward to the next a little before they should, the combination was evident in this "Sloppy Joe Sandwich Game". In other words, a slow start and a "glad it's over" finish in a game punctuated by turnovers and miscues. Course you really can't blame the 'Skins as just about everywhere you looked in Eastern Pennsylvania, the play on the wet and sloppy gridirons left coaches scratching their heads and ringing their hands. Plus at the end of the day, the Creek Kids did just what was asked and banked another win.

Still, though, it sure seemed harder than was expected. And that was notwithstanding Jason Ulmer's short burst in the first period which put six more points in his bag and on the big board too. Then coupling that touchdown with Joe Stemme's 25-yard reception of a Jason Kinney pass for a score (along with 'Mr. Dependable', Seth Jeffries, toeing the ball for the two PATs), the home team took a 14 to 7 lead into the locker room at the break. As to Bensalem's first quarter score, wed be remiss if we didn't point out that it came on a long-range burst of 95-plus yards that still has us wondering how their runner got loose from a pile of bodies and would-be tacklers.

Following the Senior Night halftime festivities, the third period started with Bensalem receiving the kickoff. After the Owls stalled out on that drive, and with the pigskin then going to the 'Skins once again, the Blue and Red wasted no time in stretching their lead to 21-7 on another fine effort by Ulmer in the form of a 25-yard run into the end zone. And ladies and gentlemen - that's all she wrote as the scoreboard required no further adjustments thereafter and as we love to say: Game to Redskins.

Now at 8-1, Langhorne can concentrate on their season-ender next Friday with cross-town rival Pennsbury. Never failing as a crowd pleaser, this match-up is always circled on our calendar.

See you next week in Fairless Hills.
