Langhorne: Back home in the cozy and reassuring confines of Harry's House, the Blue & Red entertained longtime friend and foe, William Tennent. Just up the road in Warminster, the Panthers have produced any number of tough and noteworthy clubs over the years. And beware those who fail to keep that in mind as they might just find some unexpected claw marks after a game with Tennent. Confident the Creek Kids will keep that in mind all night long, this should be a well-played game from opening kickoff till the final gun. So is there a reason to discuss it any further? Not at all -- so let's get to it.
Winning the toss, the Creek Kids elected to receive. Setting up in a nice spot after the Devon Brown return out past the 25, if you happened to get involved in an engaging cell phone call just then, you might have missed the blur of the next 24 minutes. To sum it up it was all Neshaminy as: (1) Denny Lord finished off the first 'Skins drive with a six-yard score; (2) followed by D'Andre Pollard lugging it 30 yards for the next score; with (3) Tyler Wombough then hitting Luke Carrezola for a 25-yard touchdown to cap their third possession. Dylan McDonald was on the money on all three PATS and it was 21-0 with a few minutes still in the opening session. Worth mentioning too were Pollard's big runs on those drives as well as several nice punt returns by Cole Creighton to set up the second score. And oh yea the defense was doing its job too.
As the second-quarter rolled around the pace remained brisk as the Schmidtmen scored at the six minute mark when Pollard followed Blake Sullivan's block for his second TD. McDonald then hit his fourth extra point of the night to make it 28-0. And four minutes later Lord iced the next Redskin possession with a 30-yard ramble for his second score of the game. With McDonald's PAT making it 35-0, it wasn't long before the ref's gun sent the teams to the lockers for the break. And oh yea the defense was still doing its job.
Back on the field, it was Neshaminy kicking off for the sixth time in the game. And it was a different Panther's group as their offense put together a nice drive that didn't end until they reached the Redskin 20. In four down territory, Tennent used them all before the ball went back to Neshaminy. From there the 'Skins moved it out a bit before punting it back to the visitors.
The Panthers then couldn't do much on their next opportunity and it was then back to the Blue & Red on a punt. Finding themselves at mid-field with four minutes left in the third, and perhaps thinking it was time to shake off the rust, Hamiid Pack then snagged a short pass from Wombough and bolted 49 yards for the score. The scoreboard rolled over to 41-0 and that's where it stood after the PAT was tipped.
At that point, with Neshaminy rotating in new players at a wholesale rate, fans were seen reaching for the programs to identify the new Schmidtmen. Meanwhile, with the clock running, the fourth-quarter soon made its appearance (and if we forgot to mention it the defense was still doing its job).
As the final session then got underway, Blue & Red fans then saw something new besides the new players when the Panthers scored at three minutes into the fourth. Bottled up on a fourth and four at the Redskins 20, the Tennent quarterback scrambled free to post a TD and the first of the season by a Redskin opponent. With the PAT good the score went to 41-7. From there it seemed to be just a nano-second before the clock hit 00:00 allowing us to say:
Game to Skins!
With the Panthers moving into the SOL Continental next year, it may be some time before William Tennent is on the other side of the ball from the 'Skins. Until then a thank you and a salute to the team, coaches and fans from everyone at Neshaminy for all the great games over the years. Turning to the Schmidtmen, at 4-0 they've been doing just as instructed so far this season. And we hope they'll keep it up as the competition will only heat up from now on out as National Conference play continues. Plus while we're speaking of conference play, don't forget that Harry S. Truman will be visiting The Ridge next Friday. With the Tiger's program making solid progress the last few campaigns, this one is going to be exciting from start to finish.
