Game 06

Newtown: After opening the first-half of the season with four of its five games at Heartbreak Ridge it almost seems unnatural for the Schmidtmen to be on the road. But if there is any place to be playing a football game that's almost home, Walt Snyder Stadium qualifies. Of course, just because its familiar doesnt mean it won't be a solid test for the Blue & Red as Council Rock North, at 4-1, has been flexing its muscles all year long. And with the Indians on the Redskins schedule since it all began in 1928, these two programs know each other about as well as you can. Plus with both of these schools putting some stellar teams on the field over the many years, this contest promises to be another in a long line of great match-ups. So with the weather cooperating, and the fans in their seats, how about we get down on the field.

With the coin toss going to Neshaminy, they elected to receive as Devon Brown and Hamiid Pack were deep to receive; however, a squibbed kick by North was picked up by Casey Young and gave Langhorne a great spot to start at their 48. Five minutes later, courtesy of some 50 yards earned by D'Andre Pollard on four carries, Denny Lord bulled over from the two for the score. Dylan McDonald hit the PAT and it was 7-0, Skins.

Blake Sullivan then booted a short kick and the Indians set up at their 35. A three-and-out had the ball right back to the 'Skins on a punt with Cole Creighton returning it to the Langhorne 37. Mixing it up from there, as Pollard piled on the yards along with a neat pass by Tyler Wombough to Pack for a first at CRs five, Sullivan iced it from there. McDonald didn't miss and it was 14-0 as the first-quarter ended.

After the kickoff, and rolling into the second-session, the 'Skins found out that the Indians can be very dangerous as their scrambling QB nailed a sprinting North wideout for a long gain to the Redskin's 15-yard line. Three plays later Newtown got it across the goal-line but with the PAT snap going wild, the score stayed at 14-6. Back to receive the kickoff, it was then Matt Magdelinskas snagging a one-hopper to give the Schmidtmen a first at their 38. With Pollard then dancing all over the field, and Wombough finding Pack on a beautiful 20-yard pass to get it in close, it was Pollard who earned the TD on a five-yard jaunt. Mr. Automatic was good on the point after and it went to 21-6 halfway through the second.

Sullivan's boot then had the Indians at their 25 for another offensive try. And although the Rock looked bunched up, two Redskin penalties gave North a first at the 50 yard-stripe. And looking as if they might be making some headway, it was Brown who posted the Stop Sign with an interception at the 26 to end that Council Rock drive. With Pollard immediately punching it out to the 38 for a first, Wombough then nailed Pack at the North 25 for a big gainer. Going to a third and eight, Wombough rolled out and drilled Denzel Hughes in the endzone to make it 27-0. McDonald didn't miss and the scoreboard rolled to 28-6. Following the kick, the Indians set up at their 30 with a minute on the clock. But going nowhere, a pooch kick ended that Rock effort and the teams headed for lockers as the ball rolled dead.

With the Indians receiving to start the second-half, the deepman went out at the 22 where the Rock then started it off. After another three-and-out, it was Neshaminy with a first at their 42 following Creighton's short punt return. Going to a third and short, Pollard busted it down to the North 20 for a Moleskinner first. Two more yards by Pollard and then a 14-yard pass to Pack earned a first at the Indian's four-yard stripe. Going to a third down on some miscues, Wombough looked to Pack in the endzone to make it 34-6. McDonald was on the money again and it was 35-6 Langhorne at six minutes into the third.

After the Sullivan kick, the Indians were back on offense at their 20 yard line. Putting up another three-and-out, the Indians punted and Creighton returned it to the North 45. As the Neshaminy offense came back on the field the first two plays earned five from where Wombough hit Pack down to the 25 for a Blue & Red first. One play came up short before Pollard decided to cut to chase as he bolted the distance for the score. McDonald made it 42-6 and with 1:35 remaining in the third, the clock started running.

With a good spot at the 35 after the Sullivan kickoff went out of bounds, North's offense came back out on the field as the fourth-quarter popped up. And the Rock was still full of life as some nice completions had them down to the Redskin's 25 in a hurry. Then catching a bite, an Indian got open in the endzone for a pitch-and-catch score. A two-point try was good and the score went to 42-14 with under ten minutes in the fourth. A Rock onsides kick then caught the 'Skins out-of-sorts and the Indians recovered for a first at Neshaminy's 46. Punching and scratching, and going to a fourth and ten at Neshaminy's 30, a wide-open Newtown receiver earned another Indian score but with the two-point try snuffed, the scoreboard read 42-20.

Following yet another onsides try by North, this time Neshaminy recovered the ball at their 40. Seeing some new faces, Mason Jones then came in under center and Will Dogba had two straight assignments for nine yards. A pass then fell short as it went to fourth with three minutes showing. Neshaminy then punted for the first time in the game as Chris Watson nailed it down to the five yard line where North's offense came back out on the field. And going up top, a few passes had the Rock out to the 25 before three passes went flat. Facing another fourth and ten, the desperation pass found only the ground as the ball went back to Neshaminy with 25 seconds to go. A knee drop later and now we can say:

Game to Skins!

As always, a thank you to our hosts the CR North administration, fans, team and coaches. Visiting one of our oldest friends (and friendly rival too) is always a treat. And to the 'Skins nice game. At 6-0 the report card still reads nothing but pass and you guys are making us all happy. But the regular season is ten games long and next week are the Golden Hawks of CR South. So no resting on laurels, which were sure Coach Schmidt won't allow, as South has already proven they know how to take care of business. And seeing that a passing game can keep you on your toes, we expect a few extra drills may be on the table this week. In any event, the Redmen are back at Walt Snyder Stadium next Friday so we can dispense with directions and just say: Get there early as the boys appreciate the support.

See you at the game.
