Game 07

Newtown: Back at Walt Synder Stadium for the second week in a row, Neshaminy once again made the short trip to Newtown to take on Council Rock South. Although the newest member of the Lower Bucks schools, the G-Hawks have quickly proven they are a tough competitor. And under the tutelage of Head Coach Vince Bedesem, their teams have proven the old adage the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Notwithstanding that this year's South squad has suffered some tough times, the Schmidtmen have learned that its not a good idea to take them lightly. So let's get down to the field and see how this one shakes out.

Winning the toss, the 'Skins took the first kick which went out of bounds and set them up at the 35. What followed was a textbook offensive effort as D'Andre Pollard turned in multiple runs of 10, 15, 20 yards and more with a nice pass mixed in from Tyler Wombough to Cole Creighton. Fittingly, the nine-yard TD run was also courtesy of Pollard to finish off the drive. Dylan McDonald nailed the PAT to make it 7-0.

Following a great runback of the Blake Sullivan kickoff, to Neshaminys 47-yard stripe, South's offense then drove to inside the 'Skins ten before being stopped on downs. Back on offense, Pollard took the first handoff and broke it loose for a 50 yard jaunt to the Golden Hawk 35. A nice Wombough pass to Denzel Hughes then had it inside the 20. Pushing hard for the score from there, a rambling and spinning Denny Lord lost the handle and the ball went to South at the two. Unable to get a first, the Hawks were forced to punt out of their endzone and Creighton's return had the Schmidtmen set up at the 32.

Pollard did most of the work on the short drive that followed including the last one yard dive for the score. McDonald was on the money with the kick and it went to 14-0. Booting it back to the G-Hawks, they then set up at their 20 after the short return. A quick pass caught the 'Skins sleeping and the ball was moved across mid-field where it then went to a fourth and three as the first-quarter ended.

After flipping sides, and in four down territory at the 'Skins 36, the Hawks were stopped short and the ball went back to the Blue & Red. A short drive by Langhorne ended with a punt as Chris Watson boomed it down to the South 17. Three plays by the South offense lost eight yards and another punt followed with Creighton's return putting the Redskins at the enemy 45.

From there a couple of nice running plays had the Schmidtmen at the Hawk's 20 before Pollard lost the handle and South covered it up. This time three plays by the G-Hawks resulted in a loss of ten yards with another punt from their five-yard line. The high, short kick was grabbed by Creighton at the 40 from where he bobbed, weaved and then bolted the distance for the score. Mr. Automatic nailed the point after and the score rolled to 21-0 with five minutes remaining in the second.

Following Sullivan's kick the G-Hawks set up at their 30. A three-and-out followed with Creighton returning the bouncing ball back to mid-field. With Sullivan bruising his way down to the 12 on a couple of assignments, Pollard then punched it in from there. McDonald didn't miss and with under a minute in the half it went to 28-0. Sullivans last kick of the first half was returned to the 30 and South once again brought out their offense. Three short plays later and the gun sounded it was time for the halftime break.

With the Hawks taking the kick to start the second-half, the ball bounced out of bounds to give them a start at their 35. After earning a first down, a three-and-out then followed with the punt bouncing out at Neshaminy's 33. Pollard took the first handoff and went the distance to make it 35-0 after the McDonald PAT. Following the kickoff return the Hawks then started at their 20. A couple of nice runs had them at mid-field before a three-and-out forced a punt which went out at the Langhorne 22. From there, the 'Skins earned a first before stalling out at the 40. Watson then trotted out and boomed a punt that rolled to the South 13 as the fourth-quarter rolled around courtesy of the running clock.

After the break to flip directions, South was back on O with the final session underway. And as expected, the game programs were coming out so fans could identify the new Redskins. With the Hawk's offense showing some excitement, and with a Redskin penalty thrown in for good measure, South was at the 40 in a hurry. Going to a 4th and one, the Hawks went for it and earned a fresh set of downs at mid-field. A nice run then had it down to the 'Skins 28 for another first. But coming around to another fourth down, this time the Hawks came up short as the scrambling Golden Hawk QB was sacked.

Not missing a beat Neshaminy soon enough had a first in CR territory as the fourth-quarter rolled around and the two teams were bringing in fresh jerseys across the board. With the backups picking and dancing their way down the field it was Will Dogba doing the honors as he took a short one across for a score. McDonald hit the PAT once again as it went to 49-7 as the fourth-quarter clock showed just over nine minutes remaining.

With under five minutes left, Mason Jones came in under center as Joe Pirrone took two straight handoffs for ten yards and a first. Cale Kitchenman then bolted for twenty across mid-field. Going back to Kitchenman again, it was another twenty-yard burst that had the Blue & Red down to the 19. Will Dogba then logged a few more before Pirrone took it to the five from where Jones took the knee to end the contest. Which means:

Game to 'Skins!

Even with the slightly wet and chilly weather, the hospitality of the CR South group made the game a delight. Thank you to all the Golden Hawks.

As to our guys, at 7-0 the Creek Kids have certainly delivered all they have been asked this year and we thank them for the effort they make each week. And we'd be remiss if we didn't offer a special way to go to the defensive group which recorded its fourth shutout of the year. Although it seems that the offense gets all the headlines, we're all well aware of the efforts of guys like Luke Carrezola, Mike Palmer, Alex Nicolas, Dorian Arthur, Matt Bianchino, Denny Lord, Devon Brown, Matt Magdelinskas, Denzel Hughes, Trokon Buesmaill, Blake Sullivan, Cole Creighton and all the rest of the guys rotating in and out. Thank you! Plus while we're at it, thank you as well goes to the offensive line (you know who were talking about). You guys have been opening up holes that a B-17 could fly through. So thank you Redskins, thank you all.

Wrapping it up, we're sure that Coach Schmidt will have a few comments to keep the team in line, though, as next week sees them back home entertaining an always dangerous Bensalem group. And since it's the last home game of the regular season Harry's House is sure to be packed so get there early and show your Redskins just how much we love them!

See you at the Game!

Sterling Limosine Offensive Player of the Week

D'Andre Pollard

The junior running back just keeps putting up dazzling numbers for the Redskins. In last week’s win over Council Rock South, Pollard had 18 carries for 264 yards and four touchdowns.

Coach Mark Schmidt says: “D’Andre continues to be very efficient and obviously very productive. As expectations have grown throughout the season, he has continued to raise his level of play. This is a credit to D’Andre’s work ethic and practice habits. We are expecting another strong effort on Friday as we get ready for a very tough, physical Bensalem defense.”
