Langhorne: Tonight the ‘Skins are at home to play Head Coach Bruce Fleming Jr. and his Galloping Ghosts. It is First Responder Night, Cheer Alumni Night and the Hall of Fame Induction and the place is rocking.
Neshaminy is up first and they put together a solid and diversified drive to score from the 5 yard line on a pass from QB Michael Eckart to Connor Frederick. Kaden Nicastro’s kick is good for the extra point and the score is “Skins 7 – Ghosts 0. A lot of ‘Skins made those 7 points happen, from Lucas Stewart’s reception, Michael Sassano’s run, Jason Gilardi’s catch, Nashir Moore’s runs, Eckart’s keeper run to Connor‘s reception for the TD.
Ghosts then went 3 and out as the “Skins defensive shut down their run game. On the subsequent punt, the ‘Skins’ Michael Sassano blocked the ball which was recovered by a Ghost and the ball was turned over on downs. Neshaminy had excellent field position at the Ghosts’ 17. Colbey Bracey capped off the drive with a 1 yard TD run. Nicastro's kick was good and the score is ‘Skins 14 – Ghosts 0.
A Woodolf Moise sack then ended the Ghosts drive and signaled the end of the first quarter.
Switching sides, the ‘Skins took over, and with the help of two key catches - a 25 yard Frederick catch and a 12 yard Michael Sassano catch – the ‘Skins were soon in the red zone. They scored from the 1 on a quick pass to Frederick in the end zone. Nicastro’s PAT kick is good and the score is ‘Skins 21 – Ghosts 0.
After a series of 3 and outs, the ball was punted to the ‘Skins.
Nick Sassano returned the Ghosts’ punt for 45 yards, putting the ‘Skins at great field position on the 22. A few plays later, Jason Wilmot finished the job with a 7 yard TD run. Nicastro’s kick is good and the score is ‘Skins 28 – Ghosts 0. The next play, the ‘Skins push the Ghosts into the end zone for a safety after the snap is botched. The clock runs out on the half as both teams head for the locker rooms.
The Ghosts started the 3rd quarter with a new sense of purpose, but back-to-back Owen Swartz sacks shut them down and forced a punt.
Despite a great Bracey run and an Eckart scamper, Neshaminy fell one yard short and turned the ball over on downs.
The Ghosts put together another decent drive and went for it on 4th down on the ‘Skins’ 28, but they were unable to move the ball and Neshaminy took over on their own 28.
Wilmot’s speedy run of 15 and 9 yards ends the 3rd quarter.
As the 4th quarter starts, Wilmot continues carrying the ball until he scores from the 1 yard line. Nicastro’s kick is good and the score is now ‘Skins 37 – Ghosts 0.
On the Ghosts' next possession, 'Skins junior Russ May intercepted an Abington pass, but Neshaminy fumbled a few plays later. The Ghosts recovered but the clock runs out on this contest. Final Score “Skins 37 – Ghosts 0.
You can re-watch the game here. The 1st half saw the ‘Skins score on their first 4 possessions. We could not help but notice that Michael Sassano, who worked hard tonight, seemed to be everywhere. Owen Swartz had back to back sacks which is something we rarely see. Jason Wilmot sped past defenders to score 2 TDs and Connor Frederick caught two TD passes in the end zone. Kaden Nicastro was 5 for 5 on PATs. These were just a few of the highlights of this game.
We wish new Head Coach Bruce Fleming the best as he starts out his career with the Abington Football program.
Captains for today’s game: #1 Michael Eckart, #8 Connor Frederick snd #95 Owen Swartz.
See you next Friday at Central Bucks West. We hope all our fellow fans come out and cheer on our players.
Good night Mrs. B.
09.23.2024 Correction: Nick Sassano returned the punt for 45 yards.
