Langhorne: We are back home for the District 1 Quarterfinals. Tonight we welcome Owen J Roberts head coach Rich Kolka and his Wildcats. This is our second meeting with the Cats and the ‘Skins are looking for redemption from the 2024 playoff loss.
Neshaminy won the toss and elected to receive. Michael Eckart started the drive with a 7 yard run and Nick Sassano gained 20 yards with a catch and run. Then Carter Clee burst through the line for a 42 yard TD and Stephen Buczek was good for the extra point. Score ‘Skins 7 – Wildcats – 0.
RB Mekhi Graham then did most of the carries for the Cats as they scored on a one yard run and Ryan Touhey added the extra point. Score is even at ‘Skins 7 – Wildcats 7.
Mike Sassano returned the kick all the way to midfield with an explosive sprint. But they stalled on the Cats’ 27 and turned the ball over on downs.
In the next 3 plays, Matt Gregory scored on a 75 yard pass and the Touhey PAT was good. Score ‘Skins 7 – Wildcats 14.
The ‘Skins went a quick 3 and out and Eckart did the punting honors to shut out the 1st quarter
Switching sides, the Cats ate up 7 minute off the clock with a long drive culminating in a 21 yard Gregory TD and the Touhey kick was good. Score ‘Skins 7 – Wildcats 21.
It then took the ‘Skins 3 plays to score on a 19 yard TD pass to Mike Sassano and the Buczek kick is good. Score ‘Skins 14 – Wildcats 21.
Owen Swartz’s sack was a key factor in stopping the Cats’ drive and they were forced to punt. Nick Sassano returned that ball to midfield giving the ‘Skins great field. Clee then punched in 15 yards and Eckart, 17 yards. Clee then scored on an 11 yard TD and the Buczek kick is good. Score is evened up again at ‘Skins 21 – Wildcats 21.
The ‘Skins got the ball back with 50 seconds on the clock but they ran out of time and the teams went to the locker rooms for the break.
Neshaminy’s Buczek kicked off to OJR to start up the 3rd quarter. They Cats got all the way down to the ‘Skins’ 38 when an Owen Swartz sack stopped them in their tracks, giving the ball to the ‘Skins on the Cats’ 45.
On the 2nd play of their possession, Eckart threw a 49 yard TD pass to Mike Sassano and the Buczek kick was good. Score is ‘Skins 28- Wildcats 21.
It was then a back and forth of punts between the two teams.
The Cats, now in possession, turned back to the Graham running game. But Graham fumbled and 'Skins' Luke Howell recovered on the 36.
Nick Sassano hauled in a 36 yard catch to move the team downfield and Eckart ran the ball right down the middle for a 17 yard TD and Buczek was good for the extra point. Score is ‘Skins 35- Wildcats 21.
The Wildcats manage to reach the ‘Skins 11 yard line when the quarter ends.
The Cats fail to score when Williams knocked down a pass in the end zone meant for Gregory, saving a score and turning the ball over on downs.
The ‘Skins drove quickly down the field assisted by some Clee runs and a 45 yard Williams catch. Clee ran 3 yards in for a TD and Buczek’s kick was good. Score is ‘Skins 42- Wildcats 21.
On the ensuing kickoff the Wildcats fumbled the ball and Nick Sassano recovered it in Wildcats territory on the 38.
Then in a play that we had to watch a few times, Clee ran the ball those 28 yards for a TD. Buczek was good for the extra point and the score is ‘Skins 49- Wildcats 21.
The Wildcata tried but could not score in the remaining 6 minutes and the game was over - win to 'Skins. Final score ‘Skins 49- Wildcats 21.
