Newtown: Tonight the ‘Skins traveled to Walt Snyder Stadium in Newtown to play Brandon Garrett’s Council Rock North Indians. The Indians come in with a 0-1 record and Neshaminy with 1-0. It is good to see plenty of fans on both sides of the stands supporting their teams.
‘Skins started it up on their own 30. A throw to Nick Sassano moved the ball to the 44, a pickup of 26 yards. Brother Nick got three more yards, but a subsequent fumble gives the ball to the Indians.
The Rock got stalled on the ‘Skins’42 when sophomore QB Will Cabo was overrun by Neshaminy defensive players Owen Swartz and Milo Makes, who forced a punt.
Eckart and company took over on the Indians’ 10. Brock Williams ran the ball 12 yards for a first down, Carter Clee got another 10 yards and he followed it up with a 47 yard on a big time power run down to the Indians’ 20 for another first down. Stuck at the Indians’ 16 in a 4th and down, the ‘Skins went for it. After an almost stumble, Eckart miraculously recovered and threw the ball 18 yards into the end zone to Mike Sassano for a TD. Tristan Rivera’s PAT attempt was good and the score went to ‘Skins 7 – Indians 0.
The Indians put together a solid set of plays but fumbled at their 44.
After a series of Clee and Eckart runs, Neshaminy got the ball to the Indians’ 21 and a short pass to Brock Williams resulted in a TD. The score ‘Skins 14 – Indians 0.
With the Indians back in possession, Mike Sassano intercepted a Cabo pass and carries it back to the ‘Skins’ 47, but the gain was called back due to a penalty. This pushed the ‘Skins back to their own 23. The Rock then got hit with a personal foul which moved the ‘Skins up to their own 40. Eckart busted out a 15 yard run to the 44 and followed it with an absolutely beautiful 44 yard TD pass to Nick Sassano. Rivera adds one to the score, bring it to ‘Skins 21 – Indians 0.
The Rock then went 3 and out with the ball back to the ‘Skins.
Now in possession of the ball, Neshaminy was forced to start on the Indians’ 15 after a penalty. Between Clee and Eckart, they moved the ball on a series of runs, and a terrific 48 yard catch and run by Bobby Lagler put the ‘Skins in the red zone at the Indians 12. Clee scored a TD with a hard 5 yard run and Rivera went 4 for 4 on Pats. Score ‘Skins 28 – Indians 0.
With 5 minutes left in the half, Daniel Chebotarsky kicked the ball to the Indians’ 41. Two Neshaminy penalties moved the Rock into Neshaminy territory at the 42, where a fierce QB Sack by Owen Swartz, Luke Howell and Steve Lyons forced a 4th and 11 and a Rock punt.
Starting at the Indians’ 30, Eckart plowed his way 6 yards through the Indian defense. Williams then snagged a 50 yard pass. Eckart and Clee got the team down to the 34 where Williams scored a TD on a precision pass from Eckart. The extra point kick is no good and the teams went into the locker rooms with a score of ‘Skins 34 – Indians 0.
The Indians start up the 2nd half where they put together a nice set of plays, but Mike Sassano put a stop to their drive with his second pick of the day.
From the Indians’ 15, speedy Williams ran the ball in for his third TD of the night and Rivera nailed the uprights. Score is ‘Skins 41 – Indians 0.
With the Rock in possession, we saw new faces on both teams. The Indians then went a quick 3 and out.
New QB, freshman Angel Miranda, took over for Neshaminy. If you recognize that name, his brother Devon was a senior on last year’s team. Running duties were carried out by Cayden Weaver as the 3rd quarter ended.
Starting the 4th quarter, the ‘Skins go for it on a 4th and down and Weaver plowed his way to the Indians 36. They again went for it on 4th down, but the Indians defense made a big stop and took over the ball on their own 31.
The Indians marched down the field helped by speedy freshman running back Jake Newman. With 2 minutes left, the ball went to Neshaminy who took a knee as the the clock ran out. Final score ‘Skins 41 – Indians 0.
WBCB Player of the Game is Michael Eckart. Captains for tonight's game - #1 Michael Eckart, #9 Carson Schneider, #52 Owen Swartz and #54 Milo Makes
Neshaminy dominated this game as their defense did not allow a point. The defensive line kept up relentless pressure on QB Cabo, while Michael Eckart and his offense were firing on all cylinders.
We have covered the Sassano brothers for several years. Whenever one makes a great play, the other is right there offering congratulations. We still make mistakes in distinguishing who is who. If we do make a mistake, we ask for your understanding. Drop us a line and we will correct any issues. After all, both of them are everywhere, all the time, doing everything. They are double trouble for any opponent.
Running back Carter Clee played very hard tonight and dragged the Indian defensive players down the field as he racked up 130 yards running and 1 TD. Michael Eckart deserves his WBCB Player of the Game recognition for his 50 rushing yards 233 passing yards and 4 TD passes. Brock Williams scored three times, twice on passes from Eckart and his last on a 15 yard run late in the game. Tristan Rivera was 4 for 5 on PATs and Cayden Weaver had 40 running yards in the 3rd and 4th quarters. For more player stats go to Max Preps. You can watch the game here.
Congratulations to Coach Felus on back to back decisive wins.
Thank go to the Council Rock Indians for their hospitality. We wish you the very best as the season goes on. You played hard tonight.
We will see you next Friday in Harry's House for our home opener! Don't miss it!
Good night Mrs. B!
