Langhorne: Tonight we welcomed Rob Rowen and his CB West Bucks to The Ridge to play the ‘Skins. Both teams are evenly matched at 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the conference. It is also Homecoming, a longtime Neshaminy tradition, and the Neshaminy faithful are out in force tonight.

Neshaminy started with a big break as ‘Skins’ junior, Colson Hilon recovered a fumble on the Bucks’ 33. Two West penalties later, a few Carter Clee runs, and a Lucas Stewart catch, Michael Eckart ran it right up the gut for a 5 yard TD. Stephen Buczzek is good for the extra point and the score is “skins 7 – Bucks 0.

West then stalled midfield after a series of Nick Miletto and Louie Cipollo runs when the ‘Skins defense completely shut down the Bucks’ run game.

Ball back to Neshaminy, and after a few Carter Clee runs, QB Michael Eckart let it fly with an 83 yard TD pass to Bobby Lagler. The Buczzek kick was good and the score was “Skins 14 – Bucks 0.

“Skins’ Damien Castro kicks off and the Bucks start on the “Skins 48 but the Neshaminy defense shut them down again at midfield and the Bucks’ punt team came out on the field.

The ‘Skins get in 2 plays before the 1st quarter ends.

Switching sides, the ‘Skins got to midfield where they were stopped and forced to punt for the first time.

Tristen Rivera did those punting honors and the Bucks made it to the ‘Skins 42, their best field position so far of the night. A Jack Wilson catch moved the chains followed by a 24 yard Cipollo TD run.  Gavin Todd ran the ball in for an extra 2. Score ‘Skins 14 – Bucks 8

The ‘Skins then went three and out, and Rivera again came out to punt.

West started on their 37 after another 15 yard penalty. Jack Wilson then caught a 39 yard pass but Corey Keenoy-Webb pushed the Bucks back with determination. The Bucks’ Mason Darrows hit a 36 yard field goal and the score went to ‘Skins 14 – Bucks 11.

Ball to ‘Skins and the first play is a beautiful 15 yard Mike Sassano catch followed by a Clee power run of 27 yards. Carter then blasted through the Bucks’ defense for another 31 yards for a TD. And the Buczzek PAT is good. Scoreboard now read ‘Skins 21 – Bucks 11.

CBW got control of the ball the ball with 40 seconds left in the first half. Bucks’ Shane McQuire immediately got them down to the ‘Skins 33, in field goal range. Mike Sassano then intercepted the Bucks as the first half ends.

Halftime activities included introduction of the Homecoming Court and the crowning of the King and Queen.

Neshaminy received the kick off to start up the 2nd half but Eckart’s 19 and 5 yard runs were not enough to make another down. Rivera booted the punt to the Bucks’ own 35.

With the first West play, Dan McGarrity and Rivera got busy and quickly squashed the Wilson run. There was a lot of defensive hustle going on all around.

The ‘Skins started on the Bucks’ 20 and Eckart turned on the jets and ripped off a huge 72 yard run, with blocking courtesy of his dependable running back, Clee, who clearly evaluated the unfolding situation. Buczzek now went 4 for 4 on PATs.and the score was ‘Skins 28 – Bucks 11.

The Bucks came right back with a 47 yard TD run by Cipollo and the Darrows kick was good. Score now at ‘Skins 28 – Bucks 18.

With 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the ‘Skins got the ball back on their own 20. Mike Sassano was good for 13 yards on an Eckart pass. David Liberty hauled in a short 5 yard pass and that brought an end to the 3rd quarter

The ‘Skins then stalled on their own 41 to start the last quarter and were forced to punt.

West started up on their 29, and after Cipollo ate up a few yards he was replaced by junior Josh George. Then despite Owen Pudlo’s punchy run and the return of Cipllo, the Bucks were stopped on their 45 in a 3rd and 24 situation. Tag team McGarrity and Keenoy-Webb made a key blitz for a 5 yard loss.

Now with 5 minutes left in the game, the ‘Skins began their drive from their 3, but West’s defense was determined to stop the drive and the ball went back to the Bucks.

The Bucks put together a series of runs in the last few minutes of the game. Dan McGarrity and Nick Sassano made an important tackle and our secondary batted down multiple passes. Carson Schneider intercepted the Bucks’ ball with 1:52 left on the clock.

The ‘Skins could not hold onto the drive and Rivera punted. Now with 48 seconds left in the game, West took over on their 38. Looking for a Hail Mary pass, they took to the air, but the Neshaminy secondary got busy and did not allow a score. The clock ran out as Owen Swartz and Keenoy-Webb sacked the Bucks’ QB to close the page on game 6. What a way to make a statement to end this game. Final score tallys at ‘Skins 28 – CBW 18.

This was a very important game and we watched every second of every play carefully. Both the offense and the defense played well tonight. Everyone steps up to leave it out on the field and most importantly, they play as a team. We got two lucky breaks in the 1st quarter and key West penalties were in our favor. The team fought hard all game and we are pretty proud of them. The season is played one game at a time and each game is unique. You can guarantee there will be a lot of prep for next week's game.

Captains for tonight's game - #1 Michael Eckart, #9 Carson Schneider, #24 Cayden Weaver, #52 Owen Swartz, #54 Milo Makes and #65 John Marion.

The Bucks always play hard and tonight they came to play. The team has a lot of heart and they played hard nosed football. They did not quit and continued to fight back up to the very last second. That is the mark of a well-coached team and hats off to the West coaching staff. We wish them the best of luck the rest of the season.

BTW - a word about kickers. We have a lot of respect for them as their PAT can be the difference in a tie game. Present kicker, junior Stephen Buczzek, was 4 for 4 on PATs in this game. Buczzek has proven to have a steady foot and has been consistent so far this season. Having written and researched many Neshaminy kickers over the years; Bahr brothers Matt Bahr - Steelers, 49ers, Giants, Browns, Eagles, Patriots and big brother Chris Bahr- Raiders, Bengals, Chargers as well as Bob Grupp - KC Chiefs. In recent years we were blessed with 2 great kickers; Kevin Kelly - Penn State, a 4 year starter - 2001 through 2004, holds the record for Neshaminy field goal points at 30, longest field goal of 54 yards and Dylan McDonald - Syacruse University soccer. Gone are the days when we could not even find a kicker position listed on a roster. Today, the kicker is an integral part of the team.  A shout out to the kickers!

You can re-watch the game here. FYI - the livestream of this game garnered 2.1K views.

We are entertaining Pennridge next week, an important game on the schedule and we hope to see as many ‘Skins fans as possible to cheer on the team!

Good night Mrs. B!
