Doylestown: It’s post season and the ‘Skins traveled to War Memorial Field for a second meeting with Coach Rob Rowan and his Bucks for the 1st round of playoff games. Both teams are at 7-3 on the year. It’s a chilly Halloween night and very windy so there could be tricks or there could be treats.
The Bucks won the coin toss and elected to defer. The ‘Skins started their drive on the Bucks’ 20 but quickly went three and out.
Tristan Rivera did the punting honors and the Bucks, assisted by two 'Skins penalties, scored on a 14 yard TD run by Nick Miletto. Mason Darrows' kick was good and the score was 'Skins 0 - Bucks 7.
Carter Clee then took the first Neshaminy play way down the field in an explosive run of 40 yards followed by another 10 yard run into West territory. The ‘Skins went for it on 4th down but were forced to turn the ball over when a Michael Eckart pass was tipped by the Bucks’ defense.
The Bucks drive got them down to the 'Skins' 18 yard line when Nick Miletto ran the ball in for a TD. Darrows kick is good and score is 'Skins 0 - Bucks 14.
After two passes to Brock Williams and a clutch catch by Lucas Stewart, the Skins landed on their own 46 when the clock ran out on the 1st quarter.
Switching sides, Eckart continued to mix up the action. A few Clee runs, Mike Sassano and Bobby Lagler catches and some Eckart runs landed the offense in the red zone on the Bucks’ 15 in a 4th and 7 situation. Eckart took the ball to the house for a 15 yard TD and Stephen Buczek’s kick was good. Score ‘Skins 7 – Bucks 14.
The ‘Skins defense shut down the Bucks’ drive at mid field and they were forced to punt.
With the ‘Skins back in control of the ball, Eckart took to the air for a 23 yard pass to Williams. Clee then got the next down on a hard run and Eckart broke loose on a 35 yard TD run assisted by a crucial Lagler block. Buczek added the extra point.
The defense shut down the Bucks’ run game as West went a quick 3 and out.
With 2 minutes left on the clock, Darrows’ short punt had the ‘Skins with a midfield start. Facing a 3rd and 11, a screen pass to Mike Sassano gained the first down. Sassano followed it up with a 13 yard catch – 2 key back to back pass plays. Clee then shot like a cannon right through the Bucks defensive line to put Neshaminy in the red zone at the Bucks’ 13. Then Mike Sassano caught a 10 yard TD pass in the end zone. The Bucxek kick was good and the teams go into the locker room for the break with the score ‘Skins 21 – Bucks 14.
Buczek kicked off to start up the 3rd quarter, pinning the Bucks all the way back on their 12. After eating 7 minutes off the clock on a long run heavy drive, West got to the ‘Skins 23 and went for it on 4th down. A truly fierce Owen Swartz sack stopped the Bucks in their tracks and the ‘Skins took over on downs at their 30.
But the ‘Skins fumbled on their first play and West got the ball right back but they were stopped midfield and had to punt.
With three minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the ‘Skins started their drive on their own 15. A holding penalty negated a stellar Eckart run. Not giving up, Neshaminy kept advancing, helped by Eclart short runs, a Mike Sassano catch and a “take no prisoners” Clee run of 12 yards. Then with 7 seconds left on the clock, Nick Sassano caught a 39 yard pass for a TD and Buczek added the extra point. Score ‘Skins 28 – Bucks 14.
After a Buczek kick, the quarter ends.
The Bucks are right at midfield as the 4th quarter starts. They stuck to a run game with Miletto and Louie Cipollo as their main backs again eating up 7 minutes off the clock. They scored on a Joshua George 1 yard run. Darrows’ kick was good and the score was ‘Skins 28 – Bucks 21.
Darrows kicks off and the ‘Skins start from their 33. The first play was a pass to Williams who took it 37 yards with a very slippery run, dodging defenders along the way. The ‘Skins got down to the 4 yard line but were stopped by the Bucks.
The Bucks tried to get down the field and got to midfield with a long Darrows catch. But with only seconds left on the clock, the Bucks ran out of time to even up the score.
The game ended with the score of ‘Skins 28- Bucks 21.
Captains for tonight's game - #1 Michael Eckart, #9 Carson Schneider, #52 Owen Swartz and #54 Milo Makes.
