LANGHORNE: Here at Harry’s House, it’s Senior Night, Pink-Out Night and Friday the 13th all wrapped up in one. Visiting us tonight are Ed Cubbage and his 4-3 Bensalem Owls. This is the 82nd recorded game between the ‘Skins and Owls. Fun fact: Back in the day the ‘Skins-Owls matchup was an annual Thanksgiving game.

The game started with a kick off to Joel Stills who promptly took it 87 yards to the house for a TD. Matt Leonhauser’s kick hit the mark and the score was 7-0 ‘Skins. The Owls then scored 3 points on a 30 yard field goal by Dawson Fontaine. ‘Skins came right back and drove the ball down to the 5 yard line where Mike Crescenzo punched it in and Leonhauser split the uprights making the score 14-3 ‘Skins.

The Owls took possession and a nice little 23 yard run by Rob Harris put them in ‘Skins territory. But not for long as Drasaun Moore’s pass intended for Isaiah Moore was intercepted by Cory Joyce and the ‘Skins took over with 3:59 left in the 1st. From there Crescenzo, Stills and a nice little 11 yard pass to Mike Garlick brought the ball to the 24 yard line where Savion Hebron ran in in for 6. Billy Clark came out to kick but the kick was no good. Owls took back over and following a nice run by Moore the ball was at the 49 yard line when the clock ran out.

Oleh The Iceman Manzyk’s sack of Moore started the 2nd quarter, but on the next play Rob Harris ran 54 yards for a touchdown and Fontaine added 1. Score was 20-10 ‘Skins. ‘Skins had a nice drive helped by a perfect 27 yard pass to Garlick to place the ball on the 6 yard line. Brody The Cowboy McAndrew finished the job with another pass to Garlick for the TD. Leonhauser’s kick was good and the score was 27-10 ‘Skins. With 4:36 left in the 2nd quarter Fontaine kicked a 33 YD field goal and added 3 more to the Owls. Then with just 1 second left in the 1st half the Owls scored on a long Hail Mary pass to Jarrod O’Connell and with the extra point the teams went into the locker room with the score at 27-20 ‘Skins.

The ‘Skins recovered a fumble at the 11 yard line at the start of the 3rd quarter but were unable to move the ball and a field goal attempt by Leonhauser was wide. On the ‘Skins next possession Savion Hebron took on a series of hard runs gaining 56 yards to bring the ‘Skins down to the 10 where shortly thereafter The Iceman took it in from the 3 yard line and with Leonhauser’s kick the score went to 34-20 ‘Skins.

The Owls had the ball at the start of the 4th but a fumble gave it right back to the ‘Skins who went nowhere. Getting the ball back, the Owls had no success and opted to punt on a 4th and 7. Stills then ripped off a 77 yard TD run and with the extra point the score was 41-20 ‘Skins. The Owls refused to give up and proceeded to score on a pass from Moore to Isaiah Murray. Fontaine’s kick added 1 for a 41-27 ‘Skins.

With a little over 3 minutes left in the game Neshaminy gave the ball to Stills who took the ball from mid-field all the way down to the 1 yard line where The Cowboy and company pushed their way to another 7 points bringing the score to 48-27 ‘Skins and that is where it stayed until the clock ran out.

We salute Ed Cubbage and the postive changes he has made since taking over at Bensalem. The Owls gave it their all tonight.

#2 Joel Stills

The senior running back returned the opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and also had 236 rushing yards and one touchdown in Neshaminy’s 48-27 win over Bensalem.

Coach Steve Wilmot says: “Joel has been very good on kickoff returns all year. Kickoff returns are something we work very hard on – it’s not an area that gets overlooked. It’s something that’s game planned for every single week, and we’re lucky to have Joel and even Marcus Griffin, who is our other return back, because any time those two touch the ball, there’s a chance to be a touchdown. “Joel, at the end of the day, is a very good football player. He has a lot of natural instincts out there. He hasn’t played running back since eighth grade, and as the season progressed, he’s gotten better and better, working on his pad level, working on securing the ball. If you give him some room to navigate out there, he can definitely turn on the jets and go. Savion Hebron is the same way – you give him some green grass, and it’s all over. “The way we have our running backs – we’re trying to match our running backs with our personnel and do with them what suits them best, and Joel has taken to that. He only has two or three things he has to do, and he’s learning to do them very well.”
