Levittown: Tonight the ‘Skins traveled the short distance to visit neighbor Harry S. Truman where Mike LaPalombara and his Tigers are coming into the game with a 3-1 record.
The ‘Skins started the game with a stellar 77 yard kickoff return by Marcus Griffin. Two plays later an interception stopped the drive and while the Tigers got the ball, they were forced to punt. The ‘Skins then put together a long drive but stalled on the 6 yard line. With the Tigers in possession, the 1st quarter ended with the board showing ‘Skins 0 – Tigers 0.
As the 2nd quarter started the Tigers continued their march and struck first on a run by Javeer Peterson and with the extra point brought the score to ‘Skins 0 – Tigers 7. The ‘Skins answered right back and helped by a 39 yard reception by Cory Joyce proceeded to score when Oleh “The Iceman” Manzyk caught a 5 yd pass in the end zone. Leonhauser iced the cake with the extra point. While Cory Joyce intercepted the Tigers’ ball on the next drive, the ‘Skins were unable to utilize the possession for a score. Both teams went into the break with the score at ‘Skins 7 – Tigers 7.
After the half time Truman Homecoming show the teams got right back to work. The Tigers started the 3rd quarter by scoring on a 13 yard run by Gabe Gipili but only picked up 6 as their kick went far left. The ‘Skins then turned the ball over on the 41 yard line but the Tigers’ drive was interrupted by an interception by Cory Joyce who took it to the house on an exciting 100 yard TD run and Leonhauser’s kick was good bringing the score to ‘Skins 14 – Tigers 13.
There was more action in the 3rd as the Tigers then scored on a run by James Kohliyah but their 2 point conversion was stopped by the ‘Skins defense Tyler Foster, Connor Moss and James Stetson. The ‘Skins then marched down the field eating up the minutes left in the quarter.
With the ‘Skins still in possession as the 4 quarter started Manzyk ran right – and right into the end zone. Leonhauser’s initial kick was blocked. The ‘Skins re-kicked due to a penalty but it was also blocked – ‘Skins were up by 1 point. On the ensuing drive, the Tigers fumbled and the ‘Skins recovered but the drive went nowhere as the ‘Skins turned the ball over on downs. The Tigers then marched all the way down to the 4 yard line where Deondre Whitten scored 6 and with a good 2 point conversion the score went to ‘Skins 20 – Tigers 27.
The ‘Skins then ate up the last 4 minutes moving down the field on some hard runs by Manzyk and a nice catch by Logan Williamson. They scored with a minute left on a QB keeper from the 1 yard line. The ‘Skins kick was blocked and the Tigers held on for the 1 point win. Score ‘Skins 26 – Tigers 27.
Hats off to the Tigers who hustled all night and fought hard for the win.
