‘Skins wins the tug of war against the Ghosts

ABINGTON: What a beautiful early fall night for some football as the 4-1 ‘Skins traveled to Schwartzman Stadium, the home of the 3-2 Abington Galloping Ghosts.

The players got right down to business with 4 touchdowns in the first 9 minutes. The 1st quarter was a seesaw of scoring. The Ghosts’ running back Daryl Davis-McNeil powered his way all over the field, but the Neshaminy offense answered every Ghost TD with one of their own. In their 1st possession of the game, Brody The Cowboy McAndrew made the touchdown look as easy as 1-2-3 and that’s because it only took 3 plays for the ‘Skins to get on the board. A 76 yard kick return by Ryan O’Connor brought the score to 14-12 ‘Skins.

The ‘Skins Defense slowed down the elusive Abington backs in the 2nd quarter. Neshaminy chewed 6 minutes off the clock and scored on a 15 yard pass to Oleh “The Iceman” Manzyk bringing the 1st half to an end with the score 21-12 ‘Skins.

The Ghost scored again in the 3rd quarter with a pass to Hadoka, and after a penalty, Abington decided to kick the ball. However, a tipped kick was caught and thrown in for the 2 points. The score was then 21-20 ‘Skins.

Some hard running by Manzyk and a nice catch by Zach Cannimore brought Neshaminy down to the 8 yard line where McAndrew slung a pass to Joyce for the ‘Skins 4th TD of the night. The Ghosts came right back for 8 when McNeil ran 2 yards for the TD and the extra 2 points. Abington was then on top by 1 with the score at 27-28.

With 2:16 left on the clock and all the fans on their feet, The Cowboy took control and promptly hit Mike Garlick with a 16 yard pass, Joyce for a 19 yard pass, ran for 18 yards and iced the cake with a beautiful 15 yard TD pass to Joyce and all in less than 1 minute. Score was then 33-28 ‘Skins. From there the Defense held back the Ghosts, ending the Ghosts’ last drive with a big sack by Nick Silenok.

We thank the Abington community for their hospitality and we tip our hats to the team who played as hard-fought a game as we have seen all season.

The sophomore quarterback completed 15-of-20 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions while leading Neshaminy to a 33-28 come-from-behind win over Abington. McAndrew’s fourth touchdown pass – a 15-yard completion to Cory Joyce with 1:25 remaining – propelled the Redskins to the win.

Coach Steve Wilmot says: “We try not to load him up with too much stuff. We don’t put the whole game plan on his shoulders. Running is always plan A, and Brody is always plan B, but sometimes plan A hasn’t always worked out the way we want it to, so he’s been doing a nice job in there. The thing I’m most happy with is he’s having a lot of fun, which – at the end of the day – is the most important thing to me. He’s doing a nice job of taking care of the football, not throwing it to the other team, which is an important thing. He’s also real lucky to have the receivers that he has. They do a nice job of running their routes and getting open, and they’re fast. After they catch the ball, they can run. It’s nice to have those people to throw it to.”

The Redskins’ junior returned a kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown, propelling Neshaminy to 21-12 halftime lead on its way to a 33-28 win.
