LANGHORNE: With several days of rain saturating the field the expectations for tonight’s game included that conditions would be a little tough. Then as the teams warmed up before the contest, the misty, fog-like rain added a haunting atmosphere to “The Ridge” making the Ghosts of Abington just the right opponent.

Receiving the opening kick, perhaps the ‘Skins were a bit spooked as that initial possession saw them turn the ball over on downs after reaching Abington’s 21-yard line. And setting a tone, a series of quick back and forth efforts by the two teams then chewed up the first quarter without a point on the board.

The second quarter was just the same until just 1:39 remained on the clock and a pooched punt by Abington provided Neshaminy with excellent field position at the enemy’s 41-yard line. From there it was Mason Jones quickly finding Zach Tredway with an aerial that moved the ‘Skins to the 10. Happy with those results Jones went right back up top as he nailed Oleh Manzyk who took it in the end zone for the score. Dylan McDonald’s point after made it 7-0 Neshaminy as the first half ended.

Looking rested after the break, both clubs hit the field full of resolve and with the weather clearing it looked like Mother Nature was doing her part as well. Abington enjoyed the first possession and a crisp and quick effort by their offense saw them get to Neshaminy’s 34 before stalling out. With Jones then ready for action, he came out throwing first finding Manzyk for a long gain to the Ghosts’ 30. And going to the air again Jones then drilled one to Zach Tredway that had the Redskins inside the visitor’s ten. Will Dogba got the nod from there as he lugged it in from the 8 to make the score 14-0 for the ‘Skins halfway through the third session.

Neshaminy wasn’t quite done, though, as just five minutes later a Jacob Gordon interception put the ball back in home team’s hands. With the formula clear by then, it was Jones to Manzyk for a quick-strike 35-yard air lanes six-pointer. McDonald’s PAT made it 21-0 and that’s how it read when the final gun sounded not much later.

Offensive Highlights: Hard working Will Dogba, who logged time on both sides of the ball, picked up 54 yards and a touchdown in the third-quarter. Zach Tredway, “Mr. Everything”, banked six receptions for a total of 110 yards. Oleh Manzyk, who played just on offense owing to an ankle strain, still had three catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensive Highlights: Mike Garlick, Jacob Gordon, Luke Hitchens, Joel Stills and the entire defensive line put together one of their best group efforts as their collective contributions saw the first shut out of the season for Neshaminy.

Special teams: Ever-steady Dylan McDonald hit on all 3 of his point-after-kicks while his punting and kickoffs helped keep Abington on their side of the field all night long.

And special props to the student body and the many faithful fans who braved the cold, wet weather to cheer on the team. The support is appreciated and there’s no doubt that our fans are second to none. And a special thanks to the Abington Ghosts for being our guests tonight.

Next week is Homecoming and it’s going to be a great night of entertainment and fun. Be there early to enjoy the festivities and watch the ‘Skins battle Central Bucks South.

    Ben Stern Class of 2016

During half time we spotted Ben Stern, a member of the 2015 football team. He was enjoying the game, weather and all, and told me how much he missed his playing days and how much fun it was to be a Redskin. He is presently working locally and mentioned that "it all went by too fast". Good luck to you Ben!
