2003 Coaching Staff
Coach Mark Schmidt is entering is ninth season as Redskin Head Coach. Prior, he served six seasons as Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Lock Haven University. There, he was instrumental in implementing the Run & Shoot offense, which was nationally ranked during his last three seasons. As Recruiting Coordinator, Schmidt was no stranger to the Suburban One Conference, actively recruiting high school players throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware.
Prior to Lock Haven, Schmidt coached under Jerry Berndt at Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn the team earned Ivy League Championship honors both seasons he was there. He also was a Tight End Coach under Jerry Claiborne at the University of Kentucky.
Schmidt's first coaching experiences actually came in the Suburban One Conference, when in 1982 and 1983, he coached under he direction of close friend and Norristown Area High School head coach Roger Grove. During those years, Norristown won back-to-back Suburban One Conference Championships.
A Graduate of Lower Moreland High School, Schmidt earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Ursinus College, where he was an All-Conference linebacker. Schmidt currently resides in Plymouth Meeting, PA, with his wife Maribeth and their daughter Erica, born February 26, 1997.
Steve Wilmot
Offensive Line and Strength and Agility Coach: This is Steve’s eighth year coaching the Redskins. This is his fifth year working with the offensive line. Steve played 4 years and was a student assistant for Coach Schmidt at Lock Haven University where he was an offensive lineman. Steve grew up in Flourtown, PA, and went to Springfield High School (Manteo). Steve is also now employed with the Neshaminy School District as a teacher and resides in Lansdale.
Jay Weidenbaugh
Defensive Backs: Coach Weidenbaugh graduated from Spring-Ford High School. He attended West Chester University and earned a B.S. Degree in Physical Education. He also has a M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the University of South Carolina. Coach Weidenbaugh has 20 years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels. His wife Tina teaches sixth and seventh grade English at Spring-Ford Middle School.

Eric Dietz
Quarterbacks: Coach Deitz is a graduate of Bensalem High School and Trenton State College where he earned a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education. While at Trenton, he played quarterback for the Lions. He began his coaching career at Neshaminy High School in 1976 under the leadership of Pal Allison & Charlie Schmidt. He moved to Penns?ury in 1979 to teach and coach. He started out coaching defensive backs at Pennsbury then moved in to the offensive coordinator position in 1981 to 1991. In 1993 & 94, Eric coached the Maple Point freshman football team. Eric and his wife Nancy reside in the Neshaminy School District with their 2 children, Jim, 22 and Laura, 20.
Paul Coleman
Defensive Line: Coach Coleman is a 2000 graduate of Widener University, where he played football for four years. Following graduation, Coleman became employed at Merrill Lynch in Princeton. In 2003, Coleman received his business education certificate from Gwynedd-Mercy College. Last year, Coleman began his coaching career as an assistant at Conwell-Egan Catholic. Coleman now teaches in the business department for Neshaminy High School. .
Ray Jones
Assistant Offensive Line Coach: Coach Ray Jones, Assistant Offensive Line Coach, attended Kutztown University of PA. He currently runs his own real estate business and has 15 years of coaching experience.
Ryan O’Neal
Running Backs: Ryan O’Neal graduated from Willingboro High School, and continued his education at Temple University where he studied Sports Management. Ryan’s coaching career began in the PAL league in Willingboro by teaching young kids the fundamentals of football. He continued his coaching at Willingboro High School as the defensive back coach for 6 years, and then became the Freshmen Head Coach for the last 4 years, before coming to Neshaminy as the running back coach. On a personal level Ryan and his wife Sandra have a son Ryan Jr., 15, daughter Jordan, 3 and a son Andre, 1 year old. .
Jim Jenkinson
Assistant Coach/Statistician: This is Coach Jenkinson’s fifth year with the Neshaminy Redskins. Prior to joining the Redskins he coached for the Penndel Wildcats for nine years. A 1990 graduate from Penn State, Coach Jenkinson resides in Levittown with his wife Liz and their two daughters Emily and Jamie. .
Joe “Mustang” Foster
Administrative Assistant: This is Coach Foster’s seventh year with the Neshaminy Redskins. He is a 1967 Neshaminy graduate. He attended Trenton State College and graduated in 1983 with a B.A. in History Education. Coach Foster is U.S. Army retired and recently retired from the PA Liquor Control Board in New Hope, PA. Coach Foster resides in Lahaska, PA.
Neil French
Linebacker Coach: Coach French returns for his second year as linebackers coach for the Redskins. He is a 1994 graduate of Notre Dame High School and a 1998 graduate of Villanova University. In December 2002, Coach completed his masters degree in educational administration at Gwynedd Merce College. He is also a social studies teacher and freshman baseball coach at Maple Point Middle School. He resides in Levittown.
Shawn Stratz
Defensive Line Coach Coach: Coach Stratz graduated from Northeast Catholic High School. He attended Albright College and earned a B.S. Degree in Education and Family Child Studies. Shawn began his coaching career at Albright as an assistant DB coach in 1998. Shawn has a beautiful daughter, Emily. He is engaged to the lovely Robin Garman, and is soon to become the stepfather of little Kiersten. .
Skip Evans
Assistant Coach: This is Coach Evans’ third year with the Neshaminy Redskins. Prior to joining the Redskins he coached at Penndel and at Sandburg Middle School. Coach Evans resides in Levittown with his wife Terri, their daughter Nikki, and son Ryan. .
