In our 2024 production, “Behind Closed Doors”, we are faced with confronting our past, present, future, and dreams. We begin with the presentation of the Doors represented by our connecting theme featuring the trumpet and ensemble performing the opening of “Wine Dark Sea” by John Mackey. Door 1 represents thoughts on dealing with Isolation. We are confront with feelings of being alone, even when we are around all of our friends and family. The music for this door is the hauntingly beautiful “Ubi Caritas” by Ola Gjeilo. Soloists in the section include Kailynn Hall on Trumpet, Olivia Andersen on Flute, and a our Saxophone Quartet. Door 2 presents us with Anxiety and the stress of having to deal with multiple things happening at the same time. In this jazzy section we hear “J’ai ete au bai (I Went to the Dance)” by Donald Grantham, we hear from soloists, Lorali Minde on Tuba, and Noah Kelly on Baritone. Door 3 opens and we are finally able to live in the joy and happiness that life brings. In this exciting and joyful movement, we perform, Richard Saucedo’s “Windsprints”. As we get to the final statement of this movement the 4th Door is opened and we are met with darkness, fear, and failure. Kathyrn Salfelder’s “Ungrounded Base” accompanies
us on this journey as we navigate our way out of this door. Confronted with stress, our darkest fears, and our failures, we have to choose to make it our or be stuck. In life, we are confronted with these emotions, how we deal with them and respond to them, is our choice. Which Door Will You Choose?
