With the merging of Neshaminy Maple Point and Neshaminy Langhorne, the 1983 Redskin football team looked promising. Unfortunately, the Redskins struggled and did not do as well as expected. Although there was much talent on the team, the 'Skins just couldn't get it together. By the end of October the Redskins had accomplished just two wins which were against Trenton and Bensalem.
The 'Skins were plagued with injuries all season. Jon Stern tore ligaments in his knee and was retired to the sidelines for the season. Pete DeGeorge and Ed Kohler suffered shoulder injuries and the entire team experienced minor handicaps.
The Redskins had a strong defense with fine performances from Colin Trickle, Jim Halikman, Bill Schmitt and Pete DeGeorge. Seniors Mike Daven, Mike Episcopo, Terry McDonald and QB Dave Duggan led the 'Skins offense.
Team
The picture from 1983 above is the sophomore Team. When the Maple Point and Neshaminy-Langhorne merged back together into the Neshaminy team, there were so many players that came out for football that there were 3 teams - a varsity, mainly seniors and juniors with just a few sophomores dressing for games, then the typical JV team of juniors and sophomores who didn’t get much action in the Varsity game that weekend, and then as it was so hard to get everyone playing time in the JV games, they formed an additional team consisting of sophomore players only that played a 5 game schedule.
